A Deluge of Hand-Me-Downs

So I realize now that I may have been a little greedy when people offered hand-me-downs. I only received hand-me-downs from two mommies, but maybe it's the fact that both mommies were completely cleaning out all of their girl clothing or the fact that people just love buying little girl clothing. Anyway, here's me sorting through newborn through 3 month old clothing (I still have yet to get through the bags of 6 to 12 month old clothing that we have). Even if I changed her outfit daily, I'm not sure if she'll be able to get through all of these clothes.. so if anyone needs baby girl hand-me-downs, let us know!

Recent Kai updates: Kai's an enthusiastic eater as ever and he's become more adept at using a spoon, so lately, we've been letting him feed himself. He sometimes likes to tilt the bowl to his mouth to maximize his eating efficiency. More often than not, it's a disaster, but I figure that it's still good practice for him and we can always change his clothes or give him a bath.

Taking the chins out of the cage for Kai to play with has now become a daily occurrence and we're really impressed with how gentle he is with them.

We purchased a convertible car seat for Kai in preparation for #2's arrival and the box it arrived in has since become the "Kai Cave" and he loves throwing his balls or crawling into it.

Five years already??

Nik and I recently celebrated our fifth year wedding anniversary with an adults-only dinner courtesy of the Huang grandparents. While Po Po and Gung Gung babysat, we went out for a quiet dinner out at an small and intimate French restaurant in Mountain View. Kai did remarkably well and it seemed that Po Po and Gung Gung had a good time as well. Thanks to the Huang grandparents!

Kai has also really taken an interest in the chinchillas lately. If we say "chinchilla", he'll immediately run over their cage yelling "goo!" We've been letting him pet the chins lately, which we figure will eventually be good practice for him learning how to be gentle with his baby sister.

After we witnessed Kai sitting on his toy tow truck, trying to push himself along, Nik figured it was time to buy Kai a push car toy. Nik assembled it just yesterday and Kai hasn't quite figured it out yet, but he loves putting as many toys as possible into the little basket in the front. Kai's also learned to ham it up for the camera.

Pumpkin Patch

This week, we took Kai to visit the pumpkin patch. He was most interested in the petting zoo: two pigs, two goats and a bunch of little bunnies and chicks. Even when we tried to take him away to see something else, he held my hand and took me back to see the animals, all the while saying "goo!" and pointing towards the animals. The funny/cute thing was that even though he was fascinated by the animals, he was scared to approach them, so any time he went near the enclosures, he would grab either Nik's or my hand.

We had him choose a pumpkin and out of the three options presented he chose the white, most ball-like (and funny looking) pumpkin out of the bunch. I guess that's just what happens when you let a toddler choose your pumpkin.

He's recently started walking around the house while dragging his little pull toys.

A Beginning

For ages, I've been saying that we should create a family blog to document the daily "going-on's" in our household. If anything, my hope is that this will help me keep track of the time... Kai is now a little over 17 months old and that since his arrival, time has just flown by. I'm also almost 36 weeks pregnant with our second (a girl) and I imagine that things aren't going to slow down any time soon.

Recent Kai developments: even though we consistently refer to Nik as "papa" Kai has taken to calling him "baba"--what's amusing is that Kai will point to himself when he says it (since Nik always does this). Kai is still very interested in animals refers to all animals as "goo", but he's recently discovered and is fascinated by airplanes and calls them "bee".

Kai discovered that his fingers can fit perfectly into his nostrils (much to his parents' amusement) and he has also discovered that he can walk around holding his hands behind his back.

 

 No longer just a Mega Blok destroyer, Kai is quite good at building these days.
