Today we were relieved to discover that Sora didn't have a temperature anymore and she was back to her normal antics this morning. With Sora feeling better, we decided to try to hit up another sight this morning. Since our hostel is nearby, we decided to try and see Sensō-ji. Just walking outside, we could already feel the oppressive Tokyo summer humidity. It's hard to believe that Tokyo is hotter than Thailand this time of year, but I think it is. We escaped to the coolness of the subway, and Kai and Sora cooled themselves in front of the A/C.
The heat didn't help the kids' temperament, as I forced them to pose for unwilling photo ops. The long, hot walk from the
Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) to
Sensō-ji didn't help either as Sora whined the entire time about being hot whenever her stroller veered out of the shade into the sun and Kai whined about having to walk. There were plenty of interesting souvenirs and food to be had in the stalls which lined the walk, but it was just too hot to enjoy.

Jad is obsessed with the solar activated lucky cats, he sees them and says "kitty!" while waving his arm up and down. I'm tempted to buy one for his except for the fact that they cost way too much--difficult to wrap my head around how much things cost in Japan after traveling through Thailand :P

The kids' anti ways are rubbing off on Jad, Jad is yelling "no" while I took this pic
We appeased the kids by letting them play Pokemon Go here and there. It's kind of sad that the kids would rather look at a game on the phone rather than experience the interesting things going on around them. Even at the
Pokemon Center at
Skytree Town, there were many times the kids preferred playing Pokemon Go rather than checking out the store. -_-

"Temple? What temple?"
To be fair, the kids were in better spirits once we actually got into the temple. Perhaps the coolness of being inside helped.

We then wandered around the area to find some lunch. We first tried to take the kids to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, but that was a total fail and the kids rejected everything we put in front of them. We gave up and defeat tastes like McDonald's Chicken McNuggets and fries. :P

High five!

No problems eating here!
After a nap for Jad and baths for everyone, we headed out again to get dinner. We passed by a small shrine in our neighborhood dedicated to a local historical figure (Tokunoyama Gohei.. Google search didn't come up with anything in English). It was nice and peaceful, and it was good for the kids to experience a shrine without all the crowds and chaos.
We ended up having dinner at small local restaurant. There was only one person there running the entire restaurant and for most of the time, we were the only diners, but we still felt conspicuous with our unruly kids. They were sulky for a lot of dinner and refused to eat a lot of things.. I guess it just serves to remind me why we usually don't eat out with the kids in the first place.

"Mom, do I have to??"
The food was actually quite good, especially the katsudon (pork cutlet with rice and egg), impressive considering it was a one man show. I was getting irritated with the kids by bedtime and yelled at them a bit. Too much heat and too much time together maybe. Will have to keep working on it. -nik
