We decided to host Thanksgiving at our home, since my parents had just returned from Hong Kong and a number of my relatives still hadn't seen our new house. Since I had to work Thanksgiving evening, we had dinner together on Wednesday and it was great! As befitting a Huang celebration, there was lot of food and Nik and I had a lot of fun having my family over.
Of course we were really busy this week between hosting Thanksgiving and work. Plus, with the Thanksgiving holiday, we couldn't drop Kai off at daycare on Thursday or Friday. We've been managing with a lot of support from our family and compromising on mealtime by eating out more frequently.
We took the kids out to the library and park this past weekend. Now that Sora is more mobile, she can play a little bit on the play structures, although Kai was deliberately trying to mow her down as she played at the end of the slide. Later, he made up for his big brother abuse by trying to push her while she was sitting in the swing.
I took the kids to church this past Sunday and after service, we packed boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Kai was actually really helpful! Of course, it didn't hurt that he got a lollypop as a reward. That evening, we met up with the Valley Crew to celebrate Minh's birthday with six different Vietnamese preparations of beef.
It's really chilly now, the perfect weather for hats, jackets and snuggles.
With Thanksgiving past, we are now well into the Christmas season (apparently, a lot of retailers seem to think it begins in September/October). Perhaps it's from daycare, friends or the books we read, but Kai seems to know a lot about Christmas. A lot of houses now have their Christmas lights up and tonight, we took Kai to see one of the more colorful houses. Kai refused to leave until we promised to let him look at Christmas lights at home. Needless to say, Kai was mesmerized.
Although it's been busy and stressful, the kids have been good through it all and sometimes, all you need to feel a little better is to dance!
