Six years already?

Nik and I just celebrated our sixth year wedding anniversary. We went out last week (without the kids!) and had lunchtime sangria and tapas in Mountain View and took a picture in front of Alberto's, the salsa club where we had first met.. we met more than nine years ago and have been married for six.. time really does fly!

Halloween preparations are underway.. somehow, we ended up with five pumpkins this year. Kai decorated the pumpkin he chose from the pumpkin patch with a marker and though Sora was interested and wanted to help, Kai put the block on that.

Kai: "Not for you, Sor-ra!"

We finished Kai's Halloween costume and Kai was predictably delighted. Initially, he literally ran circles around Thomas while saying, "Thomas! Thomas!" over and over. That alone made all the effort worth it. :) We're working on a (less work intensive) coordinating costume for Sora.. we'll post pictures soon.

For a little person, Sora certainly has big personality. She is very opinionated about what we feed her and will shake her head and refuse to open her mouth if she doesn't want something.. the tricks that had worked on Kai don't work with her. Conversely, if she likes what we're feeding her, she'll smile widely and clap. She's getting better at cruising and can move around slowly while holding onto things. She babbles a lot these days and I'm sure she'll be talking in no time.

Personally, I think that Sora has a bit of a mischievous streak and it's only a matter of time until she'll be causing trouble like her big brother.

These days, whenever we pick up Kai from daycare he always wants to go to the library. The number of library books that we have at home has exploded and we have piles of books stacked up in his room. Impressively, he knows some books by heart and can recite the text. He's also extraordinarily good at noticing teeny tiny details in the illustrations that Nik and I often overlook.

Lately, Kai has taken to wearing mismatched socks and sleeping with "Baba shirt" and "Mama robe" at night.
